Subterranean ready for J.J. Atkins at Eagle Farm
Viva Racing is looking forward to this weekend’s racing at Eagle Farm with Subterranean a live chance in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins.
Subterranean has been set for this race for a long time and is ready to fire on Saturday in one of the features of the Brisbane Winter carnival.
The classy colt had no luck in the Sires Produce (1400 meters) a fortnight ago when 3 trapped wide the trip without cover, however battled on well over the last 200 meters.
His Group 3 win in the Ken Russell two starts back is top form and rates well against Saturday’s opposition.
Subterranean will step up to the 1600 meters for the first time with the team extremely confident he will run out a really strong mile. Sire Rebel Dane was a winner up to 1400 meters, whilst dam Caves was a 4-time winner beyond 1800 meters suggesting Subterranean will run trip out strongly.
Subterranean draws a decent barrier for the first time this preparation in gate 4 with leading hoop Nash Rawiller taking the ride.
Subterranean has been trained to the minute by leading horseman Matthew Dunn at Murwillumbah and his final gallop on Tuesday leading into the weekend was the best he has ever performed on the training track.
We believe he is a strong top 3 chance on Saturday from the good gate with a step up to 1600 meters looking ideal.
Hopefully the J.J Atkins will see both Viva Racing and trainer Matthew Dunn record their first Group 1 victory.
Best of luck to all owners!
