Two stakes performed gallopers purchased by Viva Racing
Viva Racing is delighted to have purchased two stakes performed gallopers in Daytona and Arnaqueur.
Daytona
Daytona is a well bred and lightly raced 3-year-old gelding that has huge upside with strong Sydney metropolitan form who has run gallantly in feature group races in his last two starts.
A son of Sebring out of a group performed Snitzel mare, Daytona was $500,000 yearling and is a very attractive type.
At his most recent start, Daytona ran competitively in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes beaten only 2.8L by star Group 1 filly Zougotcha, defeating subsequent WA Derby winner Awesome John as well as Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner Madame Pommery. Prior to that, Daytona ran in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes where after missing the start he was strong through the line being beaten only 1.75L by Group winner Elliptical.
Daytona has always shown consistent Sydney metropolitan class and he was a dominant winner at Warwick Farm last October.
Daytona will be trained by QLD’s leading horsemen Tony Gollan from his Eagle Farm base. Tony has an outstanding record of taking tried horses to the next level and we believe Daytona has plenty of scope for further improvement.
After a long campaign which included racing in NSW, VIC and QLD, the plan is to give Daytona a nice spell of 6 weeks prior to returning to full work.
Daytona will appreciate the drop in grade at Brisbane metropolitan level where we expect him to move through the classes really quickly.
The main aim is to see him target some of the feature races over the Magic Millions carnival early next year.
Arnaqueur
Lightly raced 4-year-old gelding Arnaqueur is multiple stakes placed and has competed against some of the best young horses throughout his career to date.
Arnaqueur was a winner on debut as an Autumn 2-year-old before finishing 4th in the Listed Fernhill Stakes over 1300 meters at Randwick behind subsequent Group 1 winner Converge.
As a 3-year-old he resumed with a win over 1400 meters before progressing onto the tough group races over the Sydney carnival. He was stakes placed as a 3 year old in the Group 3 Spring Stakes over 1600m behind Festival Dancer. Other notable runs included 4th placings at Group/Stakes level in the Ming Dynasty and Dulcify Stakes.
Last August he was a dominant winner at Randwick, whilst his last preparation included two placings at Sydney metropolitan level.
Arnaqueur has been transferred to QLD and will be trained by leading horsemen Steve Odea and Matt Hoysted.
Arnaqueur still qualifies for a Class 3 Plate and he will appreciate the drop in grade from Sydney metro racing. We believe he can win a number of Saturday City races over the next few years and with further improvement may measure up over the carnivals in QLD.
